In the quiet hours of the night, Jesus, our Lord and Savior, was arrested by “great crowd with swords and clubs” (Matthew 26:47) and “a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees” (John 8:3). This shows the injustice He faced, in how it was carried out under the cover of darkness. He was brought and charged with crimes He never committed.
Yet in the face of such profound injustice, Jesus displayed a response unlike any other in human history, before or since. He remained calm, never succumbing to anger or the urge to retaliate. He spoke Truth with unwavering peace. His heart overflowed with love and compassion, even to the point of praying for those who were actively taking His life.
Think about that for a moment. In the most agonizing of circumstances, Jesus's thoughts were not of Himself, but of others. His love transcended the pain and the betrayal.
This Easter, as we remember the sacrifice of Jesus, let us dwell on this incredible aspect of His character. He is the Son of God who demonstrated a love and strength that is beyond human capacity. What steps can we take to demonstrate the same unwavering compassion and love that Jesus showed, even in the face of profound injustice?
