The Eternal Victory of Easter

Written by Pastor David Glick

In the late 1990’s, I played on a soccer team, and at the end of the spring season, there was always a tournament in Bluffton. Each year the hope was to get a trophy. We never came close. However, one year we all put it together, and we won the tournament and received a trophy. We achieved something we never thought possible. You would have thought we received a million dollars! As a 12-year old kid, I treasured that trophy. I thought I would never let it out of my sight. 30 years later, I couldn’t even tell you where that trophy was. I am not sure I even still have it. The winning is over.

Easter is not like that.

In John 3:16, Jesus says this, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but shall have eternal life.” Easter reminds us that death has been conquered. Easter reminds us that victory is here and will never leave. For us, we must believe in Jesus and ask him to forgive us of the sins for which He died on the cross. Easter reminds us that death has been conquered once and for all! I am not sure where that trophy is that I won in soccer, but I will never forget what Jesus did on the cross for me so that I can live! Easter changes everything!
